To create a unique character set and an illustrated world for which humans and scenarios could live that would instruct learners in the mining industry how to facilitate and apply risk management processes within an established system.
We created an initial set of character concepts to pitch to Kognent for different industry products as a way of gauging their aesthetic preferences and gaining feedback at the earliest stage.
After the first round, we found the square-shaped textured style was the best-fitted style for the mining industry and Kognent’s online courses. We then began creating the complete set of illustrations for the Risk Management course with scalability and efficiency in mind. Since this style was generally quite ‘blocky’, we cut up pieces of the characters to manipulate and duplicate them to add personality, different positioning and specific environmental changes relevant to the subject matter. The final touch was the shadows and character shading, which added depth and maturity to the illustration.
A collection of components for characters, environments, diagrams and symbols that boost the critical messaging of the training. Not only that, but when creating new courses, they also set a perfect foundation for further illustrations.
